the color of the fluid drawn out of the lump during the procedure will give some clues about its nature. If the fluid is clear or watery and not bloody, and the lump shrinks as a result of the aspiration, its most likely a cyst. Sometimes the fluid will be white, yellow-green, brown, or bloody, but only in rare cases will this mean that the lump is cancerous. The first couple times the fluid was green and the next time, it was brown. It was pretty disgusting, but my doctor was not concerned at all. the fluid may be clear, yellow, milky, green, brown, or almost black in color all of these are normal. Surgery is not usually recommended except when there is a sold component associated with the cyst, or if the fluid removed contains blood. The milk glands produce milk in pregnancy but in the non-pregnant breast sometimes fluid is generated and this is cyst fluid. If the cyst connects to a main duct, it may present as a nipple discharge.
